If you understand a weaving draft, you can understand how to make a profile draft work for you. With a background in production weaving focused on heirloom quality goods and the slow fashion movement, instructor Tegan Frisino will guide you into the depths of this often mysterious subject to reveal its charm! The first part of this workshop will be spent digging into how profile drafts work, it's history, and the different results you can achieve. You’ll study the details that help create a beautiful end product; and journey onward discovering how to read and translate a profile draft into multiple structures. The information you gather from these exercises will then be explored on the loom, and worked round robin so that each resulting structure can be experienced by all. You’ll leave this comprehensive workshop with confidence and curiosity, ready to take your weaving to the next level.  Harrisville 8-harness looms will be provided, along with all necessary weaving accessories.

Skill level: Students should be proficient at dressing a loom, weaving, and reading a draft independently.

Materials needed: A notebook, ruler, scissors, pencil, and slippers or socks, are recommended for this class.

MEET YOUR TEACHER

TEGAN FRISINO is an artisan weaver and fiber artist based in Upstate New York. Immersed in the arts as a child she gained the desire to take something traditional and modify it with contemporary ideas and techniques. This desire led her to pursue and achieve her BFA in Fiber Design and Sculpture from Buffalo State College. She started Comfortcloth Weaving, LLC in 2016, focusing on production weaving methods to produce heirloom quality home goods and small batch yardage for fashion designers. Her inquisitive focus and love of weaving structures is characteristic of her designs; as well as their saturated colors and illusory graphic arts playing a major role. Currently, when she is not weaving, she is studying and working towards a Master Weaver Certification through the Hill Institute in Northampton, MA. She will be a teaching at HGA’s 2024 Convergence® in Wichita, KS.

About Our Workshops

Nestled in the heart of a historic textile village, workshops at Harrisville Designs take place in the Bethuel Harris Mill. Built in the 1830s as a spinning mill for locally raised wool and located at the end of the canal, it originally operated on water power. Today, it’s home to our first-floor retail store and spacious second-floor workshop studio. Year after year students are greeted by sunlit windows, fresh air, and tranquil views of the mill pond and preserved industrial brick buildings.

Workshops vary in skill levels and lengths. Enrollment is limited to ensure each student is immersed in the atmosphere of a working studio rather than a classroom. Most scheduled classes meet from 9 am to 4 pm; however, the studio is open to students 24 hours a day while their class is in session. Looms are provided in the weaving classes, and woolen yarn and other materials are included unless otherwise noted in the materials lists online. While taking a class, students receive a 10% discount on HD items in our store, including looms! (Excludes sale and consignment items)
