Norwegian Sweater Techniques
- Brigitte Kablitz

In two weekends, this class will teach the basics of Nordic knitting in the round using two colors and steeks. We will cover both the continental and American methods of knitting. Then we will explore the various combinations of carrying two colors at the same time. Finally you will choose two colors and your preferred techniques and knit a traditional style baby's cardigan to guide you through the process.

With a two week break between the two parts of the class, you will have enough time to knit the sweater before the class reconvenes. Together we will cut the steeks, complete the neckband, button bands and insert the sleeves. We will be working in Harrisville Designs New England Shetland yarn.

BRIGITTE KABLITZ was born and raised in Germany, Brigitte learned how to knit from her mother, creating beautiful clothes for her doll. Knitting has been part of her life since childhood. As an exchange student in Norway, Brigitte learned the true Norwegian knitting style of using a steek. When she was thirty, Brigitte moved to America with her young family and started a knitting store in Salt Lake City. Her shop was very successful and is still in business under new ownership. Brigitte taught knitting classes, helped customers to fix their problems and taught them the secrets behind knitting (reading and changing a pattern). Brigitte designed sweaters for the store newsletter and helped customers to adjust and correct sweaters for a personal fit.
In 2001 Brigitte moved to Maine and immediately started to teach knitting through Adult Education. Her classes have become very successful, with a large following.

Brigitte is thrilled to help you understand the secrets behind knitting. She will teach you to knit with 2 colors, creating a little Scandinavian treasure, and help you to be brave enough to cut into your knitting.
