Navajo Weaving - Tom Jipson

Don't miss out on learning a tranquil and beautiful method of ancient weaving that is still practiced today. Students will explore each step of traditional Navajo weaving from winding a warp to weaving and finishing a small rug. Problems of design, as well as the limitations imposed by the loom and by the Navajo weaving tradition will be discussed. The object of the course is to familiarize each student with the step-by-step process of Navajo weaving to the point of independence. By the end of this class you will be able to explore the Navajo tradition and continue weaving without further instruction. Students will be using upright looms and can work sitting on the floor Navajo style, or if this is too demanding, the loom may be set on a table. For those weavers wishing to work on the floor, pillows are a welcomed comfort. No weaving experience is necessary.
